Special Dinner

Thought I'd share the very first round of photographs taken with the new Nikon. I think it's interesting how you can basically follow my progression of figuring out just how to use it through each course of the meal. Also, who can pass up a food post!

edamame guacamole with plaintain chips and tortilla chips
crab dip (aged cheddar, old bay, crostini)
braised short rib, chimmichurri sauce, baked mac n cheese
wild sockeye salmon, tartar buerre blanc, baby spinach & roasted garlic
dessert: chef's selection of three greek-inspired pastries

Ah well, so much more to learn... but it was truly delicious, filling, perfect!

"Twinklebox"

I saw this two days ago and loved it so, so much that I just had to share it.

While I don't think I'll be dabbling in film anytime soon, I keep watching and re-watching the various cuts and the angles that are used. I'm awed by the intensely high quality and just how well done this is to capture the teensy inner-workings of a music box. Okay, enough talking about it because I'm clearly just not doing it justice. Here it is:

First seen on Russel Davies.

Lone Ranger

August 2011 - Sandia Peak, Albuquerque, NM
So glad it's only 5 minutes until Friday! I've been traveling a lot recently and I'm not quite ready to share most of my recent photos, but here's one for now... gotta keep you guessing about the view over the edge of the platform though!

By the way, this image from the hands-down, fantastic photographer of Daily Dose of Imagery totally wowed me today. Take a look and take a guess at the production techniques that make it work.

Electric Blue

I've been feeling electric. First with anxiety, nerves, the tension of dreams and hope against limitations and uncertainty. Then with some fire, gumption, and a day - a burst - of yes! I did it.

And then, I saw him.
August 2011 - Dallas, TX

I had high expectations for that first shot from the new DSLR (hence the unintended hiatus)... and this evening the perfect subject flew right past my lens. The vivid blue of this dragonfly was not nearly as apparent from my standpoint when I snapped the shot, but after I looked at the photo, the neon just popped. I did nothing to this photo except crop it.

I'm loving the chance to get to know all the features of my new camera and how they will strengthen my photos! Next, looking forward to possibly sharing some recent photos taken from atop the 10,378 foot Sandia Peak near Albuquerque, NM.

The thing about cake...

...it always benefits from needs ice cream!

It was a first attempt at an ice cream brownie cake and contains layered chocolate brownie, cookies and cream ice cream, fresh fruit raspberry sorbet, raspberries & blackberries! Today seemed like juuust the right opportunity to dig this one up to share.

Especially since the next post will be of a photo taken with my brand spankin' new DSLR (go figure, right?)!

EDIT: so if you are feeling like making an ice cream cake yourself, you will likely be delighted by the suggestions here from theKitchn.com!

Miscellaneous Monday

I really need to take some new photos for the blog, but I'm also (a little bit) holding out for when I finally upgrade from my little tiny point and shoot from 2004 (really, it could be worse, I could still be using the camera from this post) and get myself a shiny DSLR! And my birthday is like just around the corner.. hint hint... so it may be sooner rather than later.

Anyhow, without further ado, today I thought I'd take a chance to share a few things that have been inspiring me lately instead of a photo. If you're truly OCD (like me) and love to organize and clean and spend Sunday afternoons categorizing your shoe collection and creating unique tags for each box (with color depictions of the shoes inside) and arranging them tetris-like so that the boxes all line up and fit perfectly onto shelves... not saying I did this (also not saying I didn't)... then this might be the blog for you: Things Organized Neatly.

I mean check this out:

Now if that doesn't just make your heart swoon.. then you have no heart! And we don't allow zombies on nuitJ, so off with ya!

Also, a delightfully fun photography jaunt can be had over at  Awesome Robo! where these mini scenes by Christopher Boffoli were shared (I was tipped off to these by Mr.Internets himself):

Lastly, for now, if you haven't heard about Pinterest yet, it's an excellent spot to check out images that people are loving (pinning, liking, +1ing, etc.) and categorizing! That's it, folks. Go find me on Pinterest!

And Happy Monday. :)
